The Regions

MDA UK Regional Office is responsible for all Jewish Communities from Birmingham and Nottingham up to Aberdeen.

MDA UK Regional Office in Manchester is responsible for all Jewish Communities from Birmingham and Nottingham up to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

In December 2004, Magen David Adom UK established a Regional Office in Manchester with Richard Simon as its first UK Regional Director.

His brief is to raise the profile of MDA in the regions with an end-result of raising more funds.

The Regional Office takes in the following towns :-
Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Blackburn, Blackpool & St Annes, Bolton, Bradford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Harrogate, Hull, Liverpool, Llandudno, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Newcastle-on-Tyne, Nottingham, Preston and Sheffield.

The Regional Office can assist donors in all aspects of giving whether they are Legacy, Celebration or just general donations. It can also issue MDA Certificates for celebrations.

SARAH CASCELLA "HERO PARAMEDIC" VISITS THE REGION

Between September 7th and 12th, Sarah Cascella, our hero paramedic from MDA Ashekelon will be visiting Liverpool, Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester and Bolton to talk about her work as an MDA Paramedic in Ashkelon, her Aliyah from France in 2005, her work at the Erez Crossing and during the Gaza Conflict and the work of an MDA Paramedic.

The itinerary is below and the meetings at Liverpool, Leeds & Glasgow in the evenings are open to the public, as is the MDA Shabbat at the Shaare Hayim Sephardi Synagogue in Didsbury, Manchester. (for further details on the Shabbat phone 0161 445 1943).

Donate an Ambulance ?

Over the past four years, we have had donated a number of MDA Ambulances, MICU's, 4x4's, Blood Mobiles and Bikes. If you are interested in donating an Ambulance, whether as a Synagogue, Association or simply as an individual, then look for the current prices on our "Shoppng List". Manchester Grammar School Ambulance

On the 24th October 2007, we dedicated the Manchester Grammar School MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) at the Jerusalem MDA Station. Funds for this were raised by the boys and their parents of the school under the direction of the High Master, Dr Christopher Ray. Following a lunch at the Dan Panorama in Jerusalem, the boys went to Tel Aviv and met HE The British Ambassador, Mr Tom Phillips, who congratulated the boys on their achievement.


MDA Regional News

We have distributed to all Regional donors (with the exception of the Manchester area) copies of "MDA Regional News" which introduced donors to the Regional Office and the many ways that donors could give through Gift Aid and/or Bankers Orders. If you did not receive a copy, contact Richard Simon at the Regional Office.


Schools and University Jewish Societies

MDA has launched a learning programme to all the Jewish schools in the Region with an aim of raising children's knowledge of Magen David Adom and the work it does.

It also aimed to make contact with as many University Jewish Societies where students may have been on MADA projects prior to joining university.


Yom Ha'atzmaut

Magen David Adom is proud to be a sponsor of the Yom Ha'atzmaut Celebrations in Manchester and will be happy to assist in YH celebrations around the region.


Hull

The Hull Friends of MDA are a very active committee and, in recent years have held a variety of fund-raising events including a lunch with Edwina Currie, a Desert Island Discs evening, an evening with Alma Cogan and friends and also their annual Garden Party. We have also had a number of ambulances donated from friends in Hull


Birmingham

In 2007, Yoni Yogosovsky, MDA's International Director from Israel, spoke to a packed house at the Singers Hill Synagogue in Birmingham, and gave an update on the work of Magen David Adom in Israel.

Birmingham MDA volunteer Esther Shaylor also spoke about her experiences with with MDA in Israel and Simon Friend, who will be climbing Kilimanjaro this summer, spoke about his aims.


Manchester 2009 Caberet Supper

The Manchester MDA Committee held a very successful fund-raising on the 25th March 2009 at the Sheridan Suite in Manchester with Ruby Wax as their Guest Speaker. Over 365 people attended and there was music from Martin Kaye and his group in a Cabaret atmosphere.

Sarah Cascella - Hero Paramedic

In September 2008, Sarah Cascella, a hero paramedic from the MDA Station in Ashkelon made a brief visit to the North West and visited schools in the region as well as a reception at the home of MDA Manchester Chairman, Jeremy Hart. She also visited students in Birmingham, the regional Ambulance station in Selly Oak and to a meeting in a Birmingham Synagogue.

Sarah is returning in September 2009 for a wider tour of the region and dates have been confirmed for her to speak on her work as an MDA Paramedic in Glasgow, Leeds and Liverpool as well as Jewish schools in those locations. The Hadera Project

Manchester MDA Committee under the chairmanship have decided to take on the reconstruction and refurbishment of the MDA Station at Hadera at its fundraising project for 2009-2011. This will cost an estimated £500k and by May 2009, £120k had already been raised


Celebration Donations

Having a celebration but you don't want a load of presents you don't need ?  Yes, well why not suggest to your friends that they make a  donation to Magen David Adom which might then purchase a piece of valuable equipment that will be donated in your name. Fundraising in the Regions

A big thank-you to all of you have generously donated to Magen David Adom over the past few years. Both the Manchester area and the Regions have shown major increases in donations and we thank you for these funds which are so badly needed.
