Cambridge Friends of MDA have been organising events since 1968, and we are fortunate that the Cambridge Jewish community support us so well.
Over the years we have been instrumental in MDA receiving various items, amongst them 4 ambulances, 2 defibrillators, a medical motorbike, and disposable medical supplies. We are currently raising money for a Lifepack 500 defibrillator.
We have had a great variety of functions over the years — coffee mornings, tea afternoons, dinners, musical evenings, talks, Desert Island Discs evenings, quizzes, garden parties. Sometimes we have a joint function with the university students. For Israel’s 50th birthday we put on a play which involved the whole community for which we obtained an Arts Council Lottery Funding grant.
We usually have three functions a year:-
We held a tea afternoon in November 2004, with a display and sale of jewellery made by Doris Wolanski.
In February 2005, we had a Question Time evening with a distinguished panel whose specialities ranged from mathematics to medieval history and political history and included a local county councillor.
In June 2005, we held our annual garden party in the beautiful garden of Susan and Robert Stopford. As well as the usual stalls, we had two book stalls, a bygones quiz and an anagram puzzler. A youth group stall, a bouncy castle and a story corner entertained the children. Musical entertainment was provided by Cambridge’s Kol Echad Choir directed by Andrew Lovett. The fantastic sum of £1500 was raised, which will fund the purchase of a Life Pack 500 defibrillator.
